2010 California governor's race pits political veteran Jerry Brown against political newcomer Meg Whitman (The Newsroom)
The Newsroom - Brown ran for president unsuccessfully in 1976, 1980 and 1992. He was defeated in a run for United States Senate in 1982. After a return to the private sector, Brown was elected chairman of the California Democratic National Committee in 1989, a position he resigned from in 1991. After mulling a U.S. Senate run, Brown ran for president a third time in 1992, losing the nomination to Bill Clinton. Brown was elected as mayor of Oakland in 1998 and then California's attorney general in 2004.Michael Schumacher
